Healthengine allows direct booking from Google
Primary care booking platform Healthengine has added a new booking pathway in partnership with Google.
The Reserve with Google feature allows patients to book appointments directly from a practice's Google Business profile upon search.
"This can help to boost online visibility, reduce drop-offs and increase appointment volumes," Healthengine said about its latest feature.
Mobile sleep apnoea test tracks eyelid movement
A medical technology company recently launched a new smartphone camera-based test for sleep disorders.
Optalert's iOS application called Owl Eye does a 10-minute test tracking a user's eyelid movement and uses a proprietary algorithm to spot signs of sleep disorders, such as sleep apnoea. The company has discovered that eyelid coordination in people with sleep issues gets impaired upon waking due to less oxygen during sleep.
The algorithm, based on a media release, has demonstrated 96.6% accuracy and 84% sensitivity in detecting obstructive sleep apnoea.
Owl Eye was developed in partnership with Monash Medical Centre, the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute, and the Institute for Breathing and Sleep.
At-home health provider turns to AI for wound care support
Medibank-backed at-home care provider Amplar Home Health has recently adopted an AI-driven analytics platform for wound care management.
The Tissue Analytics platform by United States-based SaaS healthcare technology provider Net Health uses the camera of iPads and smartphones to capture and calculate the dimensions and colour composition of various wounds to track their healing.
This adoption comes as Amplar Home Health facilitated more than 97,000 visits for wound care in 2023. "Approximately 450,000 Australians currently live with chronic wounds, which are most prevalent among individuals over 60 years and those with chronic health issues such as diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease," noted general manager Kylie Mayo.
